Proactive Protection for a New Chapter in a Historic Setting
The Challenge
Hermès’ relocation to a new boutique in Lille placed the Maison within the city’s historic core — close to UNESCO-recognised heritage and inside a listed building.
As a proactive measure embedded within the relocation programme, storefront protection needed to be incorporated from the outset. The solution had to:
- Respect the protected architectural character of the façade
- Align with strict planning and heritage controls
- Integrate seamlessly into the surrounding historic streetscape
- Coordinate with the main contractor’s construction schedule
The objective was to embed resilience into the new location without introducing intrusive security language.
The Unfaor LUXE Response
The Core
Unafor developed a bespoke protective solution, proportioned and detailed to complement the material palette of the facade and surrounding streetscape.
Operating within a protected building in Lille’s historic centre required structured engagement with planning frameworks and municipal authorities.
Working alongside CALQ, the project architects, Unafor ensured that:
- Design intent and protective performance were aligned
- Heritage sensitivities were addressed at concept stage
- Approval pathways were anticipated and incorporated into the programme
This early coordination reduced friction, sped up the planning approval process and preserved architectural clarity.
Delivery
Installation was coordinated closely with the local contractor, ensuring alignment with the broader relocation works.
Careful sequencing allowed:
- Efficient integration into the construction timeline
- Controlled works within the constrained historic streetscape
- Preservation of façade detailing and public realm quality
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
The project required alignment between:
- Hermès project leadership
- CALQ (Project Architects)
- City of Lille authorities
- Local main contractor
From concept through installation, Unafor acted as a technical partner — balancing architectural ambition, regulatory compliance, and certified protection performance.
This collaborative model ensured that security was embedded as part of the boutique’s long-term value, not treated as an afterthought.
The Result
- Proactive integration of certified storefront protection
- Seamless alignment with listed architecture
- Early-stage coordination reducing planning complexity
- Installation delivered in step with relocation programme
- Preservation of Lille’s historic urban character
Hermès Lille demonstrates how proactive protection, integrated from the outset, strengthens both brand presence and public realm — supporting Urban Safety for Liveable Cities while respecting architectural heritage.
