Flagship Protection in London’s Premier Luxury Corridor
The Challenge
Apple’s new store at Montgomery Village forms part of a carefully curated open-air retail destination. The brief called for proactive integration of certified storefront protection without introducing conventional security elements that might interrupt the clarity and openness of the store’s architecture.
The challenge was architectural and experiential:
- Maintain Apple’s signature transparency and minimalism
- Create an inviting outdoor plaza environment
- Embed certified protection within the public realm
- Align with landlord expectations for placemaking and retail quality
Security needed to be invisible — not concealed, but expressed as part of the environment.
The Unfaor LUXE Response
The Core
At the heart of the solution sits the Unafor Core, delivering fully rated hostile vehicle mitigation performance engineered to protect people, façade glazing, and brand assets.
Rather than standing independently as visible protective elements, the Core units were integrated into a wider architectural composition.
Apple developed a series of custom urban furniture elements, manufactured by Concreteworks, designed to shape an inviting plaza experience.
These sculptural concrete forms:
- Provide informal seating and gathering points
- Reinforce pedestrian flow and dwell space
- Encapsulate and shroud the Unafor Core system
- Maintain full certified protective performance
The result is a seamless fusion of placemaking and protection — where security is embedded within the architectural language of the site.
Delivery
Close collaboration between:
- Apple’s design and store planning teams
- WS Developments (landlord)
- Concreteworks (furniture manufacturer)
- SP Consulting (installer)
- Unafor engineering specialists
ensured that structural performance, material detailing, and installation sequencing were aligned from concept stage through completion.
Protection was engineered into the furniture foundations, preserving design intent while meeting performance requirements.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
This project exemplifies integrated delivery within a managed retail environment.
Apple’s commitment to architectural clarity set the tone: security could not compromise openness. Working alongside WS Developments, the scheme supported the broader retail vision for Montgomery Village — enhancing public realm quality while strengthening resilience.
Concreteworks translated Apple’s design into precision-manufactured concrete elements capable of housing certified protective cores without visible compromise.
Through coordinated engineering and detailing, Unafor ensured that performance standards were upheld while enabling architectural freedom.
This approach reflects Urban Safety for Liveable Cities — strengthening protection through thoughtful design rather than defensive infrastructure.
The Result
- Fully rated storefront protection embedded within urban furniture
- An inviting outdoor plaza enhancing customer experience
- Seamless alignment with Apple’s architectural philosophy
- Security integrated into placemaking rather than added as a barrier
- A replicable model for design-led protection in managed retail environments
Apple Montgomery Village demonstrates a new direction for luxury-adjacent retail protection: design first, security engineered within.
Design the Experience. Engineer the Protection.
