Discreet Storefront Protection for a Historic Setting

Proactive integration of Unafor LUXE security into Palma de Mallorca’s Golden Mile — preserving architectural heritage while protecting brand value.

The Challenge

Louis Vuitton’s Palma de Mallorca boutique sits within the city’s renowned Golden Mile — a historic urban environment defined by heritage façades, cast iron street furnishings, and strict municipal oversight.

As part of a store refurbishment, the brand sought to integrate discreet hostile vehicle mitigation without altering the character of the streetscape. The brief required protection that would:

  • Respect the architectural language of surrounding historic cast iron elements
  • Comply with heritage and archaeological excavation restrictions
  • Avoid deep foundations that could disturb protected subsurface remains
  • Maintain uninterrupted store operations during installation.

The project required technical precision and contextual sensitivity in equal measure.

The Unfaor LUXE Response

The Core

Unafor provided the Unafor Core, engineered for certified impact resistance while allowing architectural customisation.
To align with the historic setting, each Core unit was sleeved with bespoke cast iron decorative covers, designed to reflect the materiality and detailing of Palma’s existing street furnishings. The result was protection that reads as civic infrastructure rather than added security.

Given archaeological depth restrictions, Unafor developed a shallow-mount foundation solution. This approach:

  • Reduced excavation depth
  • Minimised ground disturbance
  • Complied fully with municipal and heritage requirements
  • Maintained structural performance within the permitted parameters

This allowed the project to proceed without compromising the city’s protected substrata.

Delivery

Installation was carried out by local crews in phased stages, coordinated around store operations and pedestrian flow.

The phased programme ensured:

  • No disruption to trading
  • Controlled installation within the constrained historic streetscape
  • Continuous coordination with city authorities and project architects

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Delivering protection in a historic urban centre demands collaboration beyond the storefront.

Unafor worked in close coordination with:

  • Louis Vuitton’s project leadership
  • G4 Architects
  • The City of Palma and heritage authorities

Technical drawings, foundation methodology, and aesthetic detailing were aligned early to secure municipal approval and ensure compatibility with the Golden Mile’s architectural framework.

This collaborative approach ensured that safety enhancements strengthened — rather than compromised — the public realm.

The Result

  • Architecturally coherent integration into Palma’s historic streetscape
  • Protection delivered without visible security language
  • Full compliance with heritage and archaeological constraints
  • Minimal excavation through shallow-mount foundations
  • Installation completed without disruption to store operations

The project demonstrates how Urban Safety for Liveable Cities can be achieved through contextual intelligence, engineering precision, and architectural care.
